"Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Issue 172 just hit the street, and from it Wally’s has captured a major parcel of the 93 point, comfortably-priced 2005 Koehler Syrah that we are turning into a phenomenal E-Club bargain. (Keep in mind Mr. P., in this same issue, exclaimed that another $35, 92 point Syrah was a “stunning value.” If this is Parker’s definition of a “stunning value,” it boggles the mind to imagine how he would describe the deal you’re being offered!) But, back to the Koehler; here are Parker’s comments: “A Hermitage look-alike from Santa Ynez, Koehler’s full-bodied 2005 Syrah possesses notes of road tar, spring flowers, blueberries, crushed rocks, and crème de cassis. With layers of flavor, and superb purity as well as depth, it represents a beautiful combination of Santa Ynez’s ripe, pure fruit and the structure and muscle of a great Hermitage from France’s Rhone Valley. I’ll be anxious to see how this cuvee evolves over the next decade or more.”"
