93 points "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape unquestionably benefitted from the declassified Cuvee des Cadettes being included in the blend. Composed of 48% Grenache, 28% Syrah, and 14% Mourvedre, 62% was barrel-aged and the rest spent time in large wood foudres before blending. Excellent aromatics of lavender, licorice, blueberry, black raspberry, and new saddle leather are followed by a ripe, full-bodied, elegant, accessible wine offering an admirable concoction of rich fruit, a substantial, full-bodied mouthfeel, and silky tannins. It should drink nicely for 12-15 years. This great estate has proven to be one of the few contrarians in both 2007 and 2008. Why? With the proliferation of special cuvees in the great vintage of 2007, La Nerthe was the outlier, not producing their famed Cuvee des Cadettes. However, in 2008, an average quality vintage in which most Chateauneuf du Pape estates did not produce a special cuvee, La Nerthe made a Cuvee des Cadettes. They have also introduced a second wine called Les Granieres." Best 2009-2024
