"The 2002 Cotes de Tablas red is an outstanding example of a Cotes du Rhone blend from California’s Central Coast. The good news is that there are 3,500 cases of this beauty. Made from 45% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 21% Mourvedre, and 12% Counoise, this well-structured red possesses a peppery, red and black fruit-scented nose with hints of plums, allspice, and tobacco. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."

"Fruity and spicy nose. On the palate, dry and full-bodied. Very Côtes du Rhône-like. "

"45% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 21% Mourvèdre, 12% Counoise from the excellent 2002 vintage. Grapes were harvested and fermented in small fermenters, the Syrah in open-top fermenters and everything else in closed fermenters. The wines were blended in June of 2003, aged in 1200-gallon foudres, and bottled in June 2004. It is rich and spicy, with copious aromas of cherries and rasberries laced by smoke and spice. The flavors are round, juicy and rich with ripe tannins, a hint of oak, and long, elegant finish. It will drink well for the next 6-8 years."

"On the simple side, with a lean, chalky herbal, cherry and menthol edge that finishes on a dry note. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 3,500 cases made. (JL)"
