"The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition exhibits a dark ruby color (darker than 2006) and a lovely, ripe nose of sweet black cherries, raspberries, pepper, loamy soil, and spice. The wine is medium to full-bodied, relatively soft for a 2005, with light tannin in the finish. It should drink well for 10-15 years. From one of the archconservative bastions of traditionalism in Chateauneuf du Pape, these are classic old-style Chateauneuf du Papes bursting at the seams with sweet cherry notes, roasted Provencal herbs, licorice, and resiny, loamy, earthy scents. These wines age surprisingly well; certainly the 1990 Cuvee du Papet in my cellar is one of the most monumental Chateauneuf du Papes ever made. 2006 looks to be a very good vintage for the Sabon brothers.

"Restrained, with serious structure underlying the raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors, this shows alluring perfume and a minerally spine on the back end, which really stretches out the finish. 4,165 cases made.
