90 points "MW-Wines Penfolds Master Class with Peter Gago (5/7/05) - Colour: dark crimson. Nose - plums, dark berries. Palate - concentrated, with the signature Barossa sweet fruit core, black and blue berries, dark chocolate, savoury spices reminiscent of cloves and aniseed, well integrated subtle oak. Good structure and balance, with a lengthy finish. Should still improve for some years. According to Peter, the Penfolds RWT Shiraz is designed to sit alongside the Grange, the main difference being the use of French Oak instead of American Oak."

5 stars "An outstanding Barossa Valley vintage that began late due to cool spring weather, although conditions were generally frost and disease-free. Warm summer weather led to an early vintage, with excellent fruit quality. Joins 1996, 1990 and 1986 as one of the best vintages of the past two decades.Rich, saturated, Christmas pudding-like fruit and stylish French oak are immediately obvious, followed by more subtle aromas of dried glace fruits and underlying dark liquorice and prune. A sleek, luscious Barossa Valley Shiraz in which a core of blueberry fruit and ripe tannins contribute to phenomenal length of flavour. There is also a refined, luxurious, praline-like flavour and texture." Best 2005-2020
