"A bit herbal despite the ripe fruit. Lacks a bit of harmony, turning tart on the bitter finish. (PM)"

"The 1996 St.-Joseph Les Granites was made from incredibly tiny yields of 10-15 hectoliters per hectare. The wine reveals a remarkable liquid mineral/orange marmalade character. This intense, medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure wine should drink well for a decade. What is so amazing about this single-vineyard wine is that it is aged in 100% new oak, but there is very little evidence of wood in the wine, a testament to its extraordinary concentration and richness."
