Tasting Notes:

95 points "I usually approach this sort of wine with some degree of trepidation, so double decanted it, and left it for a little while. We had the usual six or so (red) wines open for tasting last night, of which one is often drunk, although not always, depending on mood or what’s available from the cellar, the others eventually sinked or given away. I was meaning to taste this over a couple of days but on a cold wet winters Saturday night, sipped slowly from big Shiraz glasses while watching a movie…well it was an offer too good to refuse. Sheer luxury. Let’s face it, if you are oak averse this is most likely not the wine for you, and certainly it plays a good hand in the wine’s overall flavour profile. Vanilla, coffee, aniseed, cloves and other earthy savoury flavours are married to ripe but fresh fruits of the forest on a palate that’s dense and full, but in no way heavy or stolid. No alcohol heat a big bonus. The texture is magic with a silken sheen of fine ripe tannins, the acid unobtrusive and beautifully threaded through, the finish long and savoury. It manages to be impressive without being a blockbuster - a trick that a few more should try pulling off.
