"Yalumba’s Menzies vineyard – on the red dirt of Coonawarra – was planted in 1987 though, in my opinion, it’s only really started to come good over the past handful of years. The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on the Menzies vineyard.
Needs some time in the bottle – under cork – but this is a good-to-excellent, medium-bodied cabernet. Nothing over- or under-done here. Tobacco leaves, blackcurrant, Bonox, mint and chocolate. Fruit and most especially, varietal character is the main go here. Good length. Chunky-ish tannin but that’s what time is for: to iron out the finish. I can feel the word “indeed” coming on.
