Dark ruby in color, showing beautiful aromas of crushed berries, with hints of sultana, raisin and spices. Full-bodied, with a superrich, powerful palate. This has layers of fruit and a fabulous finish. Decadent and delicious. Best after 2011. 3,700 cases made. –JS"

"96 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible aromas of tar, meat and black licorice and then it turns to ripe fruit and raisin. Full-bodied, with loads of velvety, vanilla and chocolate character. Plus masses of jam, but then it turns refined and elegant. Serious, modern winemaking here. Best after 2006. 280 cases made." (05/03)
K&L's notes - This wine is very dark red in color showing sweet vanillins followed by ripe, milk chocolaty aromas. In the mouth the aromas repeat themselves with flavors that are densely concentrated and very fine, sweet tannins showing just a little grain. The wine has a long vanillin aftertaste. This obviously barrique-aged version is probably worth another taste to see what developments might occur in a couple of months. La Togata is located due south of Tavernelle.
