"- June 2000 - One of the great Talbots, the 1982 exhibits a dark garnet/purple color as well as spectacular aromatics consisting of melted licorice, briny olives, black currants, aged beef, new saddle leather, and cherry liqueur. Powerful and full-bodied, with spectacular concentration, it is not dissimilar from its sibling, the prodigious 1982 Gruaud-Larose.
This exotic effort possesses a level of "brett" that tasters weaned on sterile, new world wines will find objectionable. However, a touch of "brett" can add complexity, as it does with this 1982 Talbot.
- Oct 97 - (96) The wine tastes fully mature, although it is revealing no signs of color degradation. My best guess is that this wine should easily hold for another 10-15+ years. It has been delicious since the late eighties, exhibiting a saturated, nearly opaque purple/garnet color, a huge nose of black truffles, licorice, herbs, meat, new saddle leather, and gloriously sweet black fruit. Full-bodied, yet surprisingly supple and fleshy, with huge quantities of chewy fruit, this is a corpulent wine. The finish is all glycerin, fruit, and alcohol, although there must be some tannin lurking behind these components. There have been some great Talbots - 1945, 1953, and 1986 - but I do not think there has ever been a more satisfying or complex Talbot than the 1982. This is one of the most seductive, complex, and hedonistic 1982s for drinking between now-2010."

"This is 4th growth, sibling of Gruard-Larose. The 1985 is a down sixzed versionof the 1982 and is now flattering to taste and drink. Very deep in color with ripe, rich berry like fragrance. Supple, fleshy, medium bodied wine has loads of fruit, smooth graceful."
