"The 2005 Lealtanza Reserva Spanish Artist Collection (Gaudi in this vintage) is 100% Tempranillo sourced from 75+-year-old vines and aged for 18 months in new French oak. Purple/black in color, it proffers a complex perfume of lavender, incense, Asian spices, leather, black cherry, and blackberry. Full-bodied, dense, and mouth-filling, it is loaded with ripe fruit, notes of terroir and spice, and enough tannin to blossom for another 3-4 years. This lengthy effort will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2025. S. Tanzer -- 93pts Saturated ruby color. Heady aromas of red and dark berries, cherry-cola, vanillin oak spices and potpourri, with a smoky mineral overtone. Lush, pliant raspberry and mulberry flavors are complicated by notes of candied rose, vanilla, sassafras and five spice powder and framed by velvety tannins. A suave mineral component adds energy to the very long, spicy, penetrating finish. For a rich wine this is surprisingly energetic and focused. In fact I prefer this wine's vivacity to the power of the 2004 version. Wine Spectator -- 93pts Don't be fooled by the heavy-weight bottle; this is a supple, graceful wine. Fine-grained tannins support focused, lively flavors of cherry, sandalwood, tobacco and mineral, and juicy acidity keeps the finish fresh. Drink now through 2014. "
