" Carla’s vineyards, run by the Cutino-Meadows family, are located in Contra Costa County just south of the Antioch bridge. The vines are over 100 years old, head pruned, and dry farmed. The soil is well-drained sand and gravel. These gnarly stumps of vines produce beautiful bunches of fruit with moderately small berries and thick skins, with production a moderate 1.5 tons per acre. This low production adds to the intensity of the wine. The vineyard is named after Carla Meadows who, with her husband Dwight, have led the fight to keep this historic vineyard from becoming a shopping center parking lot."

"Dark, rich and momplex, with a solid core of chunky blackberry, wild berry and raspberry fruit that's intense and concentrated, finishing with a burst of ripe fruit and ripe, intergrated tannins and a dash of smoky, toasty oak. 696 cases made. James Laube"
