Tasting Notes:
tasted: June 13, 2005 , Thomas Ivey
"Talcum powder and mineral mix with pear and apple notes for a pleasing wine. Although this is not as good a Bee Block as the 2002. "

" 91+ points from Robert Parker: "Made from a 14 year old vineyard, it possesses a light straw color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of liquid stones, intermixed with honeyed citrus, orange blossoms, and lemon oils.""

90 points "Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jan/Feb 05 ($33) Honey, nuts and soft citrus fruits on the nose; rather Meursault-like. Rich and thick but with lively, harmonious acidity giving lift to the wine. Subtle notes of truffle and vanilla add complexity to the peach and soft citrus fruit flavors. Very bright wine, currently showing the most inner-palate energy of these 2001s, despite the fact that this bottling is from the bottom of the slope. 90 points "

91 points "Austere as well as rich is the 2001 Chardonnay B Block (543 cases). Made from a 14-year old vineyard, it possesses a light straw color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of liquid stones intermixed with honeyed citrus, orange blossoms, and lemon oils. Textured and full-bodied, with great purity, tremendous fruit, and a long, concentrated, impressive finish, it could easily pass for a Burgundy grand cru. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. " Best 2003-2009
