" If Penfolds Grange is a little too rich for your blood, the RWT Shiraz offers a wonderful alternative. Its style is opulent and fleshy, contrasting with Grange, which is pure muscle. RWT is made from fruit primarily selected for its aromatic qualities and fine texture rather than sheer intensity or power. This 2001 is a refined Barossa Shiraz with aromas of licorice, blackberry and plum over a tar underlay. Notes of flowers and subtle oak add dimension and lift. The palate is perfectly balanced with dark berry fruits framed by spicy French oak. Lovely with lamb, but best with beef! 94pts. from The Wine Spectator ! 8/12/04"

Ripe and open-textured, rife with cherry, currant and blueberry jam flavors, subtlety shaded with spicy, slightly smoky overtones that linger along with the fruit on a very persistent finish. A hint of melted wax that is intriguing as well. Best from 2005 through 2015. 8,000 cases made. (HS)
