"Color: deep; Nose: fragrant; Acidity: supple; Body: firm; Overall: rich; Soft and mellow meritage, interesting blend, robust mid palate, ok nose. Overall fabulous drinking wine but will look for better QPR. Good for something different than your standard Cab. The winery description shows the blend mostly cabernet:
2007 Buck Pasture Red Wine
Buck Pasture - Rockpile Ridge Vineyards
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc
Back in the old days, when you wanted to find a big buck, you went to the area of the ranch called the Buck Pasture. These days you’ll find more big wines than big bucks coming from the Buck Pasture.
The 2007 vintage is being lauded as one of the finest in recent history, and it is very deserving of the praise. Many people would describe the growing conditions as perfect. The crop set was slightly smaller than normal. We were in the midst of the first year of severe drought, stressing the fruit and further limiting the crop. The summer and fall were warm, yet moderate, and we did not have the huge temperature fluctuations common for that time of year.
The 2007 Buck Pasture is elegant and powerful, restrained yet complex. The nose is a harmonious representation of the blend: Cabernet flavors of cassis, black cherry, cola, and tobacco, the red fruit and white pepper of Malbec, the dark brooding fruit of Petit Verdot, and the floral range of Cabernet Franc. The palate is no less enchanting: the tannins coat your mouth from front to back with a firm suppleness, the acidity is perfectly integrated, and the finish seems to last an eternity. This wine will age beautifully for the next 10 years."
