"The 2001 Optimus...is a blockbuster. A dense purple color precedes the sumptuous perfume of blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and licorice. The small percentages of Petit Verdot and Zinfandel along with the huge amount of Syrah give this wine much more up-front, accessible aromatic and flavor profiles. Drink this beautiful red now and over the next 10-12 years."

"Firm tannins dominate the texture and give this young wine an austere edge, with only glimpses of wild berry, currant and spice. On the finish the tannins return to center stage. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2009. 2,000 cases made. (JL)"

"The 2005 Optimus, a combination of 51% Syrah, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, is a dense ruby/purple-colored effort displaying sweet black currant fruit intermixed with notions of smoky oak, licorice, and flowers. Broodingly backward, although not unapproachable, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 10-12 years."
