"Deep red. Liqueur-like aromas of dark cherry, chocolate, smoked meat and maple syrup; grew oakier as it opened in the glass. Concentrated and superripe in the mouth, but with a sappy quality and good peppery lift to the rich flavors of black raspberry, smoked meat, maple syrup and spices. Rather high-toned finish features substantial dusty tannins. No shortage of personality here."

"I love the rich, chewy texture on this Syrah. It’s all velvet and chocolaty fudge. The flavors are very ripe and forward, showing blackberry tart, mocha and charred oak. There are also some furry tannins and a touch of sweetness from the alcohol and fruit. Needs time. Best 2007–2010."

"Jaffurs’ wines continue to go from strength to strength, and recent vintages have been the finest I have yet tasted from this producer. The opaque ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Syrah Verna’s Vineyard offers up scents of creosote, charcoal, chocolate, graphite, cassis, and blackberries. The complex aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, layered, intense wine with loads of fruit, glycerin, and power. It should drink beautifully for 10-12 years."
