"Mugnier’s 2007 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos de la Marechale elicits aromatic allusions to ripe black raspberry, cedar, cardamom, burley tobacco, nut oils, and game, delivering a similar sense of complexity on a relatively rich if conspicuously tannin-girded palate. The sheer sap and finishing grip in evidence here suggest that one might want to follow the wine for 4-6 years in anticipation that the tannins will refine themselves."

"Tasting note: True to the Mugnier style, this is also wonderfully pure with its expressive nose of earthy red pinot fruit that also exhibits notes of underbrush and a mineral component that is picked up by the vibrant and well-delineated middle weight flavors. The mid-palate is relatively refined and the Nuits origins don't really show up until the firm and mouth coating finish and even then it's more in the way of muscle than rusticity. Lovely."
