"Color: deep; Aromas: spicy; Sweetness: sweet; Finish: persistent; Opened and poured into an Eisch glass. Drank over the next 2 days. Deep meaty and spicy with lots of dark berries. No port like flavors of the 2003 LC Problem Child, and NO 2004 fiz. Open 2nd bottle 2008/2009."

"70% Zinfandel, 27% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre. The fruit for the Outsider comes from Northern facing slopes and some lower lying areas where the soil is deeper and the temperatures are cooler. These factors produce less acid in the grape and a glycerin-like mouth feel. Aged in both new American oak and neutral barrels, the wine gains an edge of spice and earth."

"Even though the 2005 Outsider has no Pinot Noir in the blend, it reminded me of a grand cru from the Cote de Beaune (especially a Corton). A 500-case blend of 70% Zinfandel, 27% Syrah, and 3% Mourvedre, it exhibits a lovely minerality along with notes of flowers, sweet cherries, and loamy soil. A cool climate, Burgundian-styled effort with an expansive mouthfeel, it is an enticing, provocative red that I would love to insert into a blind tasting of grand cru Burgundy. "
