"The 26-year-old vines from Varner's "Home Vineyard" are dry-farmed and have never been fertilized. Planted in sedimentary soils at 805-830 feet in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, the vineyard produces wines that are a bit more tightly wound, but full of complex twists and turns. Crisp Pippin apples, a streak of minerals and a leesy richness that's not overpowering, this wine opens up to reveal flowers and pears on the nose and palate. Enjoy now or lay it down for a year or two to watch it evolve.
