"It takes a while to warm to this. It's like a pinot drinker's shiraz, and it starts off closed and quite frankly, with a good whack of sulphur pong. Over the course of a day though it morphs and changes, cleans up and becomes quite a fascinating wine. Dust, cherry, crushed spice, pepper and citrus peel aromatics, although the nose is a "watch this space" concern and is constantly evolving. Savoury, mid weight, spiced cherry flavours with a dusty, drying tannin structure and gentle but persistent length. Gorgeous balance, indisputably ripe and yet with impressive restraint. It has some similarities to a few old fashioned Hermitage's of yesteryear in structure although perhaps without quite the palate weight. Nonetheless, I like this a lot and the intent and ambition shown in the making of this wine really excites me.
