"An impressive wine, the dark ruby/purple-colored 2005 Variation One (again the Syrah/Merlot combination) has a big, sweet nose of fudge, blueberry liqueur, and acacia flowers intermixed with some espresso roast, blacker fruits, a hint of lead pencil, and toasty new oak. The wine is rich, has terrific underlying acidity, a penetrating mouthfeel, and laser-like precision. Give it 2-3 years of bottle aging and drink it over the following 15+ years. "

"May/June 2006: Deep, bright ruby-red. Nose shows black raspberry, dark cherry, mocha and chocolate. Lush and superripe on the palate, but saline and mineral elements as well as the wine's strong acid/tannin spine give it great definition and grip. Firm tannins are buffered by the wine's strong material."
