88 points "Community Tasting Notes (average 87.9 pts. in 34 notes) Tasted by Rich S on 12/4/2007 & rated 90 points: This is a blend of cab sauv, cab franc and merlot. Decanted for 30 mins and was hit with the cab franc filling up the room. Very nice! Really great dark color (the wine was unfiltered and through off a little sediment). As I said, the cab franc nose took over the show. Very floral and dark fruits on the nose. Blackberries, cassis and oak on the palate with a nice, lingering finish. The wine drank really well but had the tannins to hold up to some cellaring. Very nice wine. (186 views) Tasted by Corrado on 11/14/2007 & rated 88 points: 88/100 COLOR: 5/5 - Dark ruby red colored right to the edges. NOSE: 12/15 - All elements of this wine are apparent on the nose -- berry jam Cab Sauvignon and vegetal Cab Franc are present, but an earthy Merlot nose dominates. FLAVOR: 8/10 - Strong, bold flavors. Still somewhat tannic, but reasonably in balance with the fruit and other flavors in the wine. FINISH: 7/10 - Finishes as sour cherry, dark chocolate, and still a bit tannin-dry. POTENTIAL: 3/5 - Good structure, strong tannin, and strong fruit should result in a wine with some moderate cellarability. OVERALL: 3/5 - Probably still needs a bit more time for the tannins to tame and mellow on the finish, but there's a nice blend of earthy and jammy flavors in this that make it a food-friendly wine as well as a good drink-alone (or with friends) wine. Upon opening it was very aromatic and powerful, but tasted young and disjointed. After 3-4 hours of decanting it became very smooth with a very enjoyable mid-palate, but also developed a sour tannic finish which I didn't care for. Seems very "New World" -- lots of red fruit, particularly raspberry, but seems "fake" and a bit sugary. Nice bottle, but I'm going to wait a while longer before opening my last bottle. 87-89. (303 views) Tasted by aces219 on 10/23/2007: This really has come together since the previous bottle. Very enjoyably fruit-forward and jammy (without being cloying) on the first sip, pretty solid mid-palate followed by a peppery finish. Tasted pretty good when I first opened the bottle but a little bit hot, so I decanted. 3 hours later on the last few sips it had lost some of the fruit. We did finish the whole bottle which is rare for us! This was extremely enjoyable right now so I'll probably drink the one remaining bottle in the next year, though it can probably go at least a couple. Very heavy and sour upon opening. Toned down and became much smoother with time. (695 views) Tasted by juancarlos on 8/5/2007: Decant the wine, taste a lot better after 1hr or 2 of decanting. (787 views) Tasted by scofer on 7/29/2007 & rated 82 points: Tried along with 10 other wines at a Houston OL event at Lucio’s. Very one dimensional and came across as rather flat and without character. I have not tried this producer in the past and, based on this showing, would not be a wine that I would seek out. According to the person who brought this wine, it was not showing as well as when he had tried it in the past. Can certainly age for some more time (1055 views) Tasted by Anonymous on 6/28/2007 & rated 86 points: (703 views) Tasted by Tru2Chevy on 6/22/2007: Still young, just wanted to give it another whirl. I'll let the last 4 age for a while longer..... (673 views) Tasted by hankston on 6/7/2007: delicious blend--dark, rich, not too fruity, just-right tannic edge. approachable but complicated enough to be interesting. it went with tenderloin very well. [now that i see at my previous review, it seems that the riedel bordeaux glass did make a difference.] (1146 views) Tasted by mmurry on 5/26/2007 & rated 88 points: Outdoor Grilling Wines for Memorial Day (Farpointe Cellar): A good nose of raspberry, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, chocolate, and vanilla. The palate had raspberry mixed with green vegetables, plus some oak and spice. It had a very good finish. (1110 views) Tasted by spautz on 5/25/2007 & rated 90 points: This took almost 5 hours of decanting before it really opened up, but it was well worth it. Prior to opening up there was lots of acidity and some present but not-too-harsh tannins, with a surprisingly long and deep (and dry) finish. Not much change at all until well into the 5th hour of decanting, then it quickly exploded into luscious fruit with a great mid-palate and long, smooth, sumptuous finish. Full-bodied with tons of dark fruit and no noticeable heat, with both the dryness and acidity flawlessly integrated. (1108 views) Tasted by pgreen on 5/10/2007: Enjoyable. (1385 views) Tasted by aces219 on 5/10/2007: I think I'll drink the next bottle a year from now and see how it is. Very tight right now..after more than an hour in a decanter and then glass it is starting to open up. I'm glad I tried it while young though, still drinkable and enjoyable once it got some air. Long finish, I am getting some blueberry at the end. On the nose a different smell almost like oatmeal rasin cookie with apricots instead of rasins. Got a lot of milk chocolate on the nose and palate as well, and even cake aspects to this wine. I was very happy with it. Not sure where other reviewers were getting strong tannins, this wine had a nice grip, but no outstanding tannins. Very smooth and balanced. (1489 views) Tasted by dnarayanan on 4/24/2007 & rated 90 points: WAY too young, i think. i decanted for about an hour, and that helped open it up a bit, though it was only the second glass (which was effectively decanted for two hours) where the tight tannins didn't overwhelm me. i got some blueberry in the end of the second glass, the second night the wine REALLY opened up alot. the pepper and spice came through alot with strong blue berry, a bit of rasberry, jammy at times, though not heavy in any way, but rather very refreshing. a red that will hold up very nicely in the summer time i think, once you allow it to open up. hints of toast a little bit too. easily ageable for 3-5 years, and will open up nicely during that time. i'm not sure i can hold on to my bottles that long, though sure would love to see how they age. I didn't decant this, but a friend and I shared the bottle over the course of about 3 hours, and we did notice a small difference by the last glass. (668 views) Tasted by sa66 on 4/12/2007 & rated 86 points: Color: dark purple Nose: a bit green, chalky, with hints of violets and licorice. opens with time to reveal dark fruit - blackberrys. Medium to fuller bodied with firm tannins and a drying acidity. The oak is well integrated with dark fruit with some spice - clove nuance. Decent now, but time in the decanter helps - likely soften up with some age. (1278 views) Tasted by vaaccess on 4/7/2007 & rated 88 points: I'd rate this wine "excellent" I think it'll mature well, too. It's a little hot and the tanins are pronounced, but not too heavy. There's a nice berry cream-like flavor to the wine that I really enjoy. (1634 views) Tasted by hankston on 4/3/2007 & rated 86 points: Full-flavored, sometimes coming off a little simple and juicy, but full of edge and dark-fruited complexity. Very likable. Really enjoyed this - well rounded flavor and seems like it will pair well with a range of foods - would (and might try to) buy more. (1884 views) Tasted by jp_howell on 3/25/2007 & rated 88 points: Pepper, spice, blackberry, cassis nose. Let it breathe - opens up nicely. 20 second finish, strong but soft tannins. Fairly complex, nice balance. (1696 views) Tasted by pmarin on 3/20/2007 & rated 89 points: Opened this bottle the day it arrived; Liked it so much I ordered 9 more bottles (the most I could -- a case would have been fine too!) Beautiful blend -- lots of depth, not overpowering. I enjoy Cab Franc and having such a high percentage in this blend seems to really work well. Young now but very drinkable; this will definitely age well for some yaers. (1838 views) Tasted by patnshan on 12/16/2006 & rated 90 points: Really nice blend. Black raspberries on the nose along with some spice. Nice full mouth feel. Lush tannins seal the deal. Nice wine, looking forward to the next bottle. (2034 views) "
