92 points "Color: deep; Nose: fragrant; Acidity: supple; Finish: medium; At a respectable fifth place, this very affordable wine ($39) was well received. A darker fruit melange but very round and soft, with well integrated tannins and enough acidity to carry it well into the future. "

93 points "Vivid ruby. Sexy red berry and rose pastille aromas show very good clarity and a good dose of Asian spices. Silky, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering energetic raspberry and cherry flavors and an exotic touch of blood orange that adds a bitter edge. Pure and precise, with excellent finishing lift, cut and gentle tannins that fold into the lively red fruit. The most elegant of this set of Pinots today, and one that should age well on its balance. 91 points "Fashioned from Dijon clone 777, the 2012 Pinot Noir South Slope comes from a vineyard where the berries tend to be slightly bigger than those from the North Slope. It sees 60% new oak and comes across as slightly more tart and earthy, with a Pommard premier cru-like meatiness and structure. It offers more red fruits than the North Slope, particularly pomegranates, strawberries and sweet cherries, intermixed with underbrush and spice. Consume it over the next 7-8 years. 91 points "The 2012 Pinot Noir South Slope is likely to be the last of the 2012s to be released, and with good reason, as the tannins are firm and imposing at this stage. There is plenty of Russian River exuberance supported by lovely brightness in the fruit and plenty of tannin. The South Slope is made from Hansel's highest elevation block and is 100% clone 777, both of which result in a Pinot built with a real sense of verticality and overall structure....Hansel continues to offer some of the very best wines readers will find for the money. (AG) (01/2015)" Best 2016-2020
